Wheesung successful career had taken a 180-degree turn after he was caught using anaesthetics illegally in 2021. On Monday night, he was found unconscious in his flat in Seoul.
Local authorities said renowned K-pop singer-songwriter Choi Whee-sung, known by his stage name Wheesung, was discovered dead in his home in Seoul, South Korea, on Monday night.
The reason of death is yet to be established. According to Seoul police, no foul play was indicated at the scene and there was an indication that a considerable length of time passed before the body’s discovery.
“The artist Wheesung has left us,” said Tajoy Entertainment, the singer’s agency, in a statement released Monday evening. He was found at his home with cardiac arrest and declared dead. “The firm has expressed that its staff members and other artists are ‘in deep sorrow.”
Wheesung is known for his rich and powerful vocals, as well as for his ballads, which launched his career in 2002 with the hit R&B album Like a Movie. In the years that followed, his fame spread, spurred on by his work across genres, including hip-hop, pop, and R&B. However, he ran into a serious career setback in 2021 when he was found guilty of chronic use of the strong anaesthetic agent propofol without prescriptions. His sentence was one year of imprisonment along with a two-year suspension. He continued performing afterward, although his crowds and sales went downhill.
According to the Korea Times, the local daily, by 6:29 p.m., Wheesung was found unconscious in his apartment located in the northern Gwangjin-gu neighborhood of Seoul. His mother called from the apartment and summoned the emergency services to his house.
That day actor was scheduled to meet with his agency but canceled and was unreachable. When his mother visited him, since she lives in an apartment in the same complex, she found him unresponsive.
