Death of a Unicorn
Death of a Unicorn is an approaching American comedy horror film written and directed by Alex Scharfman. It stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant. The storyline follows a father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn, and are then hunted for revenge by the unicorn’s mother.
Death of a Unicorn will have its world premiere on March 8, 2025, at the South by Southwest Festival, with an A24 release in the United States on March 28.
Premise
On the way to crisis management with his boss, Dell Leopold, and his family, the Lopes crashed into the unicorn. The Leopolds study its curative properties for exploitation to counter the unicorn’s monetary-value grounds; however, the adverse consequences format against any such intent arise from the fact that its mate received the news and started hunting one after the other, killing all in its way for the wrongful agenda against his murdered mate.

In May 2023, announcement was made stating that Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd would act in the movie under the direction of Alex Scharfman.In November 2023, announcement was made that Richard E. Grant, Téa Leoni, Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, Steve Park joined the cast of the film.
The filming commenced in Hungary in July 2023.A rare exception for the shooting was provided to the production team during the strike of SAG-AFTRA 2023 as A24 was not a member of AMPTP.
Music
In November 2023, it was reported that the score would be created by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies.In February 2025, however, it was revealed that Dan Romer and Giosuè Greco had taken over scoring.
The official trailer was released on December 18, 2024, which featured a cover of “Good Vibrations” by The Beach Boys.

Death of a Unicorn is expected to premiere at the 2025 South by Southwest on March 8, 2025, with an expected release schedule on March 28, 2025, in the US.
