According to HBO Harry Potter series’ latest announcements, American actor John Lithgow has been chosen for the role of Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts. He had starred in the films The Crown and The Undoing.

John Lithgow, who received accolades for portraying the late Prime Minister of the UK Winston Churchill in The Crown, the award-winning Netflix series, has now confirmed his role of Albus Dumbledore in the HBO adaptation of Harry Potter.

“It was a complete surprise,” he commented. It was a really hard choice for I am afraid that it will be the one thing defining me for the late chapter of my life. Just recently, I was called up for another one at the Sundance Festival. I am so happy, though. There is such an incredible bunch of people getting to return to Harry Potter. It has been a hard decision because of that, but I have said yes. I hope they have fun wrapped during the time that I will be around at that location being 87 years old.

Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is one of the most powerful wizards alive.

Other than being seen as a father figure and mentor to Harry Potter, Richard Harris was the first to portray him, and Michael Gambon took over from him. Jude Law worked on the young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts films.

Only Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley will be known as the main Three after this announcement.

Harry Potter will be out in 2026

The HBO Harry Potter series has been established to commence production sometime this summer and will be released in 2026.

John Lithgow has a long filmography, with starring roles in The Crown, but his filmography also includes Shrek, Dexter, The Undoing, Footloose, and Terms of Endearment.
