The trailer for The Rule of Jenny Pen, dropped Monday, shows John Lithgow as a dictator in an aged care facility bent on psychologically torturing an arrogant and partly paralyzed Judge Geoffrey Rush.
In Corns of Paintings, the first feature from Ashcroft, Lithgow plays Dave Crealy in a slaying spirit, tormenting elderly patients in a rest home, using violence as a form of pleasure while mounting a Dementia doll-tilting sadistic game entitled “The Rule of Jenny Pen.”

“Who is in charge?” Crealy, played by a tortured Lithgow, at one point laments in the trailer, clutching the doll. But the trailer implies that Mortensen will soon find himself in a fatal altercation with the care home bully after being ignored when calling for help and attempting to put a stop to Crealy’s tyranny.
Co-created by Eli Kent and Ashcroft, The Rule of Jenny Pen was awarded at Fantastic Fest. The dark genre film, based on a short story of the same name by Owen Marshall, will hit Shudder following its theatrical run.
In his director’s statement, Ashcroft explained that his horror film is basically using what many would consider to be a plot device-screen bullying: I have three children, so every time I’m aware that bullying could come about in their lives. But I never really thought of that being something that my parents were going to go through in their old age.
Producers of The Rule of Jenny Pen from New Zealand are Catherine Fitzgerald and Orlando Stewart, while the executive producers are Ashcroft, Kent, Lithgow, Rush, Emily Gotto, Nicholas Lazo, and Samuel Zimmerman.
